Cimarron Frontier Communities Initiative – Streetscape Improvements

Through the Frontier Communities Initiative of the New Mexico MainStreet Program, the Cimarron community has developed a proposal for targeted improvements to their downtown streetscape. Project goals are to improve public open space and accessibility for residents and attract additional visitors. This project advances the New Town portion of the Santa Fe Trail Scenic Byway project in the Village, building from previous installation of displays depicting photos and history of the people who helped shape this part of the country.

Proposed design improvements were developed through several community meetings and inclusive design process, and include a new restroom facility, improved parking and ADA access, a new dog park, and traffic calming measures such as trees, lighting, and signage.

Wayfinding signage is being developed in concert with the Village’s ongoing branding effort. Additionally, potential trail opportunities were investigated and evaluated to better connect Old Town, New Town, and the visitors and businesses separated by Hwy 64.
