New Mexico MainStreet State Staff

Daniel J. Gutierrez

Director

Daniel is Director of New Mexico MainStreet, Coordinator of the Frontier Communities and NM Historic Theaters Initiatives, and develops and manages MainStreet’s financial incentives and funding partnerships. Prior to joining the team as Assistant Director in 2014, he was Executive Director of Barelas MainStreet and founding member, Community Organizer, and Project Director of the Barelas Community Coalition. Daniel has extensive grant writing, research, and community economic development experience in implementing comprehensive community–based planning and economic development strategies, permanently affordable housing, New Mexican identity, and protecting historic and low-income communities from negative impacts of revitalization and gentrification. He holds a BA in Anthropology/Native American Studies from UC Davis and an MA/PhD Candidacy in Cultural Anthropology from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Lucas Pedraza

Project Coordinator

Lucas has experience in socio-economic research, community economic development, metropolitan redevelopment, and housing policy. Lucas has a B.A. in Economics from the State University of NY at New Paltz and a Masters in Community Regional Planning with a concentration in community development from UNM. He was previously the Economic Development Manager for the City of ABQ, where he helped establish the Small Business Office. Lucas was also the program manager & director of the Barelas MainStreet program and is happy to be rejoining the NM MainStreet family. Previously he worked as a researcher for UNM’s Bureau of Business and Economic Research, was a Senior fellow at UNM’s Evaluation Lab, and conducted research at UNM’s Resource Center for Raza Planning, and the Center for Puerto Rican Studies at Hunter College in NYC. He’s worked in marketing and finance for private companies and looks forward to using his experience to help local MainStreet communities achieve their revitalization goals!

Jessica Mraz

Communications & Promotion Specialist

Jessica Mraz joined the New Mexico MainStreet team in April 2019. She previously worked with the New Mexico Economic Development Department as the Communications & Marketing Coordinator where she assisted with press releases, events, social media, photography, video editing, and email marketing for the entire department. She has an M.S. in Interactive Communications from Quinnipiac University, a B.A. in Liberal Studies from Antioch University Seattle, and served New Mexico PBS for more than four years in the Marketing department. She loves animals, baking, stand-up comedy, and supporting local businesses & artists.

Revitalization Specialists

Amy Barnhart

Preservation & Non-Profit Resource Development

Amy M. Barnhart is a Revitalization Specialist in Preservation & Non-Profit Resource Development with the New Mexico MainStreet program. Since joining the NMMS team in July 2013, Amy has been providing organizational development support to local MainStreet organizations throughout New Mexico, with emphasis on fundraising, grantwriting, volunteer development, organizational planning, and historic preservation. For three years prior, she was the executive director of a local MainStreet program in New Mexico. She holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Mass Communications, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Historic Preservation & Regionalism from the UNM School of Architecture. Amy has a passion for helping communities utilize their assets to achieve success in revitalizing their historic commercial districts and transforming their communities.

Robyne Beaubien

Promotion & Image Development

Robyne Beaubien is a coach, trainer, and speaker who is passionate about empowerment and change. With more than twenty-five years experience, she works with leaders, organizations, and communities to set and accomplish big goals. Robyne joined NM MainStreet in 2009, and works in the Promotion Point, assisting communities with image development, branding, special events, retail activities, communications, and social media.

Amy Bell

Landscape Architecture and Urban Design

Amy brings more than twelve years’ experience in urban design and landscape architecture, with a unique focus on educational landscapes, play environments, and “pop up” interventions in public space. With a background in environmental education and as a lecturer at the UNM School of Architecture and Planning, her approach prioritizes shared discovery in the design process for creative and authentic outcomes. Amy is a licensed landscape architect in New Mexico, Colorado and Texas and is an ISA Certified Arborist. She holds a Master’s Degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of New Mexico.

Three things I like to do in your community:

  1. Design and implement awesome creative placemaking projects (temporary and permanent)
  2. Assist in Metropolitan Redevelopment Area designation, boundary updates and projects
  3. Develop meaningful and informative methods for community input and engagement

Eduardo Martinez

Organization and Leadership Development

Eduardo Martinez is an accomplished facilitator, trainer, and organizational development expert with nearly 35 years’ experience in research, analysis and planning initiatives, including 16 years with the U.S. Department of Commerce. Eduardo specializes in organizational assessments, strategy management, program/organizational design, non-profit management and board development. Eduardo has a Master’s degree with emphasis in Systems Analysis, graduated from the Executive Leadership program at the USDA Graduate School and is a certified nonprofit board trainer. He has served as a Director and Officer for nearly a dozen nonprofit boards over the last 25 years and currently serves on the Board of Everyday Democracy (formerly the Paul J. Aicher Foundation of Hartford, CT). Before joining the New Mexico MainStreet team in 2012, Eduardo supported numerous philanthropic initiatives in New Mexico that focused on youth development, public and behavioral health, education, community development, domestic violence, homelessness, and services for veterans and immigrants. Eduardo supports local MainStreet communities with nonprofit management, organizational development and strategic planning efforts.

Sean O’Shea

Business and Entrepreneur Development

Sean O’Shea is an entrepreneur and economic development professional with an MBA from Philadelphia University. He has assisted dozens of startups and entrepreneurs through his work at the Fairbanks Economic Development Corporation and the Santa Fe Business Incubator. He is an alumnus of New Mexico State University’s LAUNCH accelerator program where he worked to commercialize an AI heart monitoring technology. Sean sits on the advisory councils of Honeymoon Brewery and FairBikes. He cofounded OSI On-Sight Security & Investigations in Philadelphia and SciVista, a VR data visualization company in Santa Fe. He is currently the Founder and President of HatchForm an economic development consulting firm located in Santa Fe, NM.

  1. Design programs that fill real gaps in the ecosystem and spur partnerships and connections
  2. Create sustainable EV projects that provide meaningful impacts and real value
  3. Go through the strategic planning process in new innovative ways.

Michelle Negrette

Creative Economy and Cultural Planning

For over 20 years, Michelle has focused on creative economic revitalization and redevelopment work in communities across New Mexico. With a rich background in cultural and community planning, Michelle’s work has focused on leveraging cultural and creative assets to build strong communities that showcase local character. As part-time faculty at the UNM School of Architecture and Planning and through community volunteer work, she has worked with students and community members to design and implement placemaking and tactical urbanism strategies. Michelle has served as a MainStreet Board member, and performed contractual and volunteer work for New Mexico MainStreets for the last two decades. Michelle holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Southern California, a Master of Community and Regional Planning and a Master of Landscape Architecture, both from the University of New Mexico. She is a NCARB certified architect and licensed planner in the State of New Mexico. She is also principal of Strata Design.

William Powell

Preservation and Design

A New Mexico native from La Luz, Powell has spent more than a decade working in architecture firms and preservation agencies within the US and Europe. After receiving his BA in Architecture from the University of Washington, he returned to New Mexico to pursue an MA in Architecture from the University of New Mexico. His professional experience includes new construction, infill, retail and commercial development, preservation of historic buildings and cultural assets, and business design improvements. Powell offers technical assistance in volunteer coordination for economic and design initiatives within underserved communities around the state. Code compliance, grant administration, pedestrian and public space improvements, community charrettes, and infill design are integral aspects of his community development work.

Julia & Cam Wilde

Graphic Design and Marketing

Collectively, Cam and Julia have over 20 years of experience helping businesses, nonprofits, economic development organizations, and municipal branches of government extend their respective brands through memorable, engaging design and visual marketing collateral for both print and digital mediums. Julia has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Design with a focus in graphic design, Cam has a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design and both earned their Masters of Fine Arts in Media Design. They provide services in graphic design, website design, social media development, interpretive commercial design, and marketing through their agency, Lm. They always look forward to collaborating with the New Mexico MainStreet network of clients to develop strategies, visual branding assets and design collateral that will help position campaigns to promote local economic development and investment; inspire diverse cultural communities; and enhance the quality of life within MainStreet communities and throughout New Mexico.
