New Mexico MainStreet Program Now Accepting Applications for Frontier Communities Initiative

Communities of Less Than 7,500 in Population are Encouraged to Apply

SANTA FE – The New Mexico MainStreet Program is currently accepting applications for its new Frontier Communities Initiative. Established by the New Mexico State Legislature and signed into law by Governor Martinez in April 2013, the program is a community economic development partnership coordinated through the Economic Development Department’s MainStreet Program.

The Frontier Communities Initiative is intended to provide technical support for small rural communities (less than 7,500 in population) to develop a catalytic economic development project within a traditional or historic commercial district such as, a court house square or village plaza. The proposed projects should demonstrate their positive impact in job creation, business development, or enhancing the local economic environment.

The Frontier Communities Initiative will provide professional technical assistance to communities that have been selected to participate through this application process. The Frontier Communities Initiative is not a grant program, and direct funding for selected projects is not included with services and resources provided for the project.
