New Mexico MainStreet is Reaccredited, Program Partners Accredited by the National Main Street Center

Santa Fe, N.M. – Today, the New Mexico Economic Development Department announced that New Mexico MainStreet (NMMS) has been reaccredited and licensed through the National Main Street Center.

Additionally, the National Main Street Center and its partners have accredited local programs in recognition of their exemplary commitment to preservation-based economic development and community revitalization through The MainStreet Four Point Approach™. Yearly accreditation allows New Mexico Main Street to continue helping local communities, and allows programs to continue downtown revitalization work.

“The partnership between New Mexico MainStreet, local MainStreet revitalization organizations and their government partner helps New Mexico’s downtowns transform into economically vibrant communities,” said Economic Development Deputy Cabinet Secretary Jon Clark. “I congratulate New Mexico Main Street on its reaccreditation and the local programs on their accreditation. This helps us leverage our services and resources with our statewide partners to support a thriving economic climate in our MainStreet Districts.”

New Mexico Main Street works with communities to offer technical assistance, build capacity, and support projects in downtown & commercial districts. Since 2003, New Mexico Main Street communities have reported: 2,285 new businesses, 379 business expansions, 8,399 new jobs, 2,638 private building rehabilitations, and $296,734,431 private sector reinvestment.

The following 25 local programs have been designated as Main Street America 2019 accredited programs: Alamogordo MainStreet, Downtown ABQ MainStreet, Artesia MainStreet, Barelas MainStreet, Belen MainStreet, Carlsbad MainStreet, Clovis MainStreet, Corrales MainStreet, Deming MainStreet, Downtown Farmington MainStreet, Gallup MainStreet Arts & Cultural District, Harding County MainStreet, Downtown Las Cruces Partnership, MainStreet de Las Vegas, Los Alamos MainStreet, Lovington MainStreet, Nob Hill MainStreet, Portales MainStreet, Raton MainStreet, MainStreet Roswell, Silver City MainStreet, South Valley MainStreet, MainStreet Truth or Consequences, Tucumcari MainStreet, and Zuni Pueblo MainStreet.

“We congratulate our local programs for their hard work in receiving National Accreditation. We are thrilled to move forward and continue our nationally recognized work to transform our downtown districts,” said NMMS Director Daniel Gutierrez.

New Mexico Main Street evaluates local program organizational performance on an annual basis with the National Main Street Center to confirm they meet 10 national performance standards. Evaluation criteria determines that the communities are building comprehensive and sustainable revitalization efforts and include standards such as fostering strong public-private partnerships, documenting programmatic progress, and actively preserving historic buildings.
