Main Street America Awards Accreditation to the NM MainStreet Coordinating Program, 31 NM Program Partners

NM’s 28 Accredited and 3 Affiliated Programs Receive Main Street Designation

Santa Fe, N.M.  – Today, the New Mexico Economic Development Department announced that Main Street America has reaccredited and licensed New Mexico MainStreet (NMMS) as a Coordinating Program. Additionally, Main Street America has designated New Mexico’s 28 accredited and 3 affiliated Main Street™ programs for meeting rigorous performance standards. Each year, Main Street America and its partners announce the list of accredited & affiliated programs to recognize their exceptional commitment to preservation-based economic development and community revitalization through the Main Street Approach™.

“New Mexico’s 31 Main Street programs work with their local partners to transform downtown districts into economically vibrant communities,” Economic Development Secretary Alicia J. Keyes said. “I commend our programs on their recognition from Main Street America and I’m confident to have them as partners in the next stage of economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.”

“Congratulations to our local programs for their impactful work and receiving designation on the national level,” said NMMS Director Daniel Gutierrez. “It’s an honor to have Main Street America as a valuable partner to support our mission to engage people, rebuild places, and revitalize economies in New Mexico.”

Since 2014, NMMS communities have reported: 1,015 new businesses & business expansions, 4,209 new jobs, 1,736 private building rehabilitations, $176,363,508 in private sector reinvestment, and 258,664 volunteer hours.

NMMS annually evaluates the performance of local programs in partnership with Main Street America to confirm the local programs have met the 10 national performance standards. Evaluation criteria determines if the communities are building meaningful and sustainable revitalization programs and include standards such as, fostering strong public-private partnerships, documenting programmatic progress, and actively preserving historic buildings.
