Corrales – Saturday, Economic Development Cabinet Secretary Jon Barela kicked of the “Shop MainStreet” holiday campaign to encourage New Mexicans to consider shopping locally for the holidays and support small businesses. Secretary Barela was joined by Corrales MainStreet, Corrales Mayor Phil Gasteyer and local small business owners. Studies support the idea that buying local has significant economic, job and environmental benefits. Twenty-three New Mexico MainStreet communities are participating in the statewide campaign.
“MainStreet is a wonderful program to help local small business and communities restore commerce and attract shoppers to city centers,” Secretary Barela said. “When New Mexicans shop MainStreet, we support “homegrown” small businesses and positively impact our local economy and community.”
MainStreet communities across the state have rallied to distribute posters and organize events that feature the Shop MainStreet logo.
