Workshop: Tackling Vacant, Deteriorated Properties in NM – ABQ

Monday, June 15 @ 9:30 am 12:30 pm

A growing coalition of New Mexico stakeholders has been working with national experts at the Center for Community Progress to explore better solutions to the challenge posed by vacant, abandoned, and deteriorated (VAD) properties—which are harming the health, safety, and vitality of communities across New Mexico.

Please join us for a half-day “vacant property revitalization” workshop for local government practitioners and officials, state representatives, and affordable housing organizations and advocates that want to learn more about effective solutions—parcel data mapping and analysis, land banks, code lien foreclosure, and more—to transform VAD properties into assets that support neighbors and neighborhoods.

Register for the in-person event: https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/ev/reg/6kpz6t6

Register for the virtual/hybrid option (starts at 10am): https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/mE-xHVZTRiyxSD7twp32Jg

The coalition includes participation from municipal leaders, the NM Municipal League (NMML), North Central New Mexico Economic Development District (NCNMEDD), New Mexico Association of Regional Councils (NMARC), and representatives from the state’s Taxation and Revenue Department and Environment Department.

The agenda will support these key objectives:

  • Increase attendees’ knowledge of effective practices to tackle VAD properties in New Mexico—and why some state policies may limit effective implementation of other national best practices.
  • Expand and strengthen a statewide network of officials and decision-makers with a common understanding of VAD challenges and solutions—and a deeper knowledge of successful policy reform efforts in other states.
  • Allow community leaders to share success stories and support peer-to-peer learning.

Come be part of this engaging educational workshop! Together, let’s continue building knowledge and excitement around approaches (new and underutilized) that New Mexico communities can use to transform VAD properties from liabilities to assets that support our residents and neighborhoods.
