How to Become a New Mexico MainStreet Community
In 2009, New Mexico MainStreet Program launched a new tier of community participation: the Emerging MainStreet Program. All communities wishing to pursue MainStreet must apply to participate in the Emerging MainStreet Program.

Truth or Consequences became
an Emerging MainStreet Community
in 2009
The Emerging MainStreet Program helps New Mexico communities explore the MainStreet Four Point Approach®, create a local organization to implement downtown revitalization activities, and implement small-scale downtown revitalization projects. Communities accepted into the Emerging MainStreet Program will receive guidance, advice and training from New Mexico MainStreet personnel. No funding is associated with this program. Communities must fund any and all Emerging MainStreet projects and activities through local fundraising efforts from public and private sectors.
All communities that are interested in the Emerging MainStreet Program are encouraged to attend New Mexico MainStreet trainings and meetings to learn more about the MainStreet Approach to downtown revitalization. Details can be found here.

New Mexico Mainstreet Special Projects
As resources allow, the Economic Development Department's Regional Representatives and the MainStreet Program collaborate on a community economic development Special Project in New Mexico communities under 5,000 in population. Special Projects receive one fiscal year of technical assistance and support preparing the community to advance project funding and implementation. Past projects have focused on conceptual design work accompanied by economic analysis and community capacity building to complete the project. The community selection process is competitive. The selection process is announced by the Regional Representatives, and a panel of agency partners reviews, ranks and selects the Special Projects. The applicant must identify a project within a town or village center that will enhance the local economy and retain or create jobs. Please contact the MainStreet Director at 505-827-0168 for more information.
